While Helene is forecast to make landfall Thursday night, its effects will likely be felt much earlier. That's because of its uncommon size, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration noting Helene's "wind field extends as far as 275 miles from its center." The effects of Helene will be felt as far inland as the Appalachian Mountains.
